The Buzz

Velocity Rower in Use

The programmable Velocity Fitness Magnetic Rower has a Drum Magnetic Control (DMC) system and an electronic tension control for a smooth and quiet workout.

The frame features rugged rectangular tubing and the seat rail is anodized aluminum. The seat is made of molded polyurethane for better comfort and glides along on superior bearings.

Other features include pre-set workouts, a max user weight of 275 pounds, transport wheels, and a folding design. It’s simple to assemble in less than 30 minutes with a clear set of instructions, and it folds up into a compact unit.

The transport wheels help you to store this 90-lb baby out of the way.

NOTE: Several user reviews point out that the online advertising for this product lists that a heart rate monitor and chest strap are included – but that isn’t true. There’s no HR telemetry on this model so be warned if that is something you are looking for in a rower.

What We Say About the Velocity Rower

The Velocity Exercise Magnetic Rower at $550-$650 isn’t a bad machine but the warranty is horrible and this model comes from a company (Cap Barbell) that isn’t known for cardio products. If you can get a great deal on it you’ll probably be okay, but for our money we would go with a better brand.

Since rowers are relatively inexpensive machines compared to treadmills and ellipticals, and the high-end Concept2 (the best rower on the market) costs just $900, you should expect a lot from a mid-price rower.

We suggest you compare the value in the Velocity model to the Lifespan RW1000 Magnetic Rower which is backed by a great warranty, or even better, check out the ProRower H2O RX-750 which costs a little more but steps you up to a better level of rowing machine.
