The BodyCraft VR400 Pro is a Great High-End Choice

The VR400 Pro is the mid-level rowing machine from BodyCraft, one of the most well respected names in the industry. Joining the base VR200 model and the top-of-the-line VR500, it is a solid choice if you are looking for a more professional-grade rower for your home gym.

The Rower

The BodyCraft VR400 features a sleek design with a silver extruded aluminum track and black supports and flywheel.  The large LCD display shows you your time, strokes per minute, total strokes, calories, watts, pulse and resistance level.

The Buzz

BodyCraft definitely makes high quality exercise equipment.  In addition to their rower line they also make treadmills, ellipticals and exercise bikes.

However, in spite of the company's efforts they aren't nearly as popular as the Concept2 rowing machines, which seem to own the high end market.  It also doesn't hurt that the Concept2 rowers are considerably less expensive, and just as well-built if not more so.

Still, the VR400 is a solid rower, with plenty of great features and capabilities.

As we mentioned above, it is the mid-range model in the series, in between the base VR200 and the top-end VR500, which is their most popular model and definitely the one the company focuses on the most.

The VR400 gives you 16 levels of resistance...the first level is air only and levels 2-16 combine air and magnetic.  The motion is very smooth and quiet, and the different levels are challenging.

You have to change the resistance levels manually, unlike on the VR500 which allows you to make the adjustments electronically.  There is a decent variety of workout programs, although not nearly as many as there are on the VR500.

All in all, this is a solid rowing machine, with a sleek professionally design and look that would be a great addition to any home gym.

What We Say About the BodyCraft VR400

We like the VR400, but it's tough to justify the price tag.  At $1,499, it's a lot to pay for a rowing machine, especially given the fact that you can get the Concept2 Model D for about $500 less.

The best rower in the lineup is definitely the VR500, and that one is even more expensive at around $1899.

However, the BodyCraft rowers are extremely well built, and choosing between a BodyCraft and a Concept2 is a personal preference.  Many rowers actually prefer the BodyCrafts in spite of their price tags.

If you're looking for a higher end rowing machine for your home gym, the BodyCraft VR400 is certainly worth considering.

We would definitely recommend the VR500 over the VR400 as it has more resistance levels (electronically controlled vs manual) plus a more advanced computer with many more workout programs to choose from.
